Renovations in Calgary
Every renovation company in Calgary claims quality. Chris McAra spent twenty years writing the reports that documented what happens when they don't deliver it.

An existing house tells you what it has been through. You have to know how to read it.
twenty years of inspecting Calgary homes means twenty years of opening up the same kind of house you live in and writing down what went wrong. Poly-B pipe hidden behind drywall (a type of plastic pipe known to fail early). Bathroom fans venting into the attic instead of outside. Yards sloped the wrong way, sending water back toward the foundation. Beams resting on supports that were never strong enough for them. Suites built with no permit, only found when the house is sold.
A renovation is your one chance to fix these things while the wall is already open. A contractor who has never inspected a house tends to close the wall back up over a problem, because finding it wasn't what he was hired to do. We scope the work already knowing what we expect to find behind the wall, and we price the fix before we start — not after we already have your deposit.
That's the whole difference. Everything below is the same promise, applied to a different room.
What we renovate
Seven kinds of work.
Whole-Home Renovations
The house reworked in one sequence, by one crew, on one schedule.
Kitchen Renovations
The most expensive room in the house to get wrong, and the easiest place to hide what is behind it.
Bathroom Renovations
Water, venting and waterproofing. What fails in a bathroom fails slowly and out of sight.
Basement Development
Below grade is where Calgary houses hide moisture, undersized headers and unpermitted work.
Flooring Installation
Subfloor, moisture and levelling decided before anything is laid over them.
Interior Painting
Preparation is the job. The paint is the last two hours of it.
Furnace, Ventilation & Air Quality
The systems that decide whether the rest of the work lasts.
How it works
Ninety minutes in your house, then a scope, a number, and a date.
01
The walkthrough.
Chris walks the house the way he would inspect it, and tells you what needs doing, what can wait, and what doesn't need doing at all.
02
The scope and the number.
A written scope, itemized allowances, a fixed price and a completion date. Yours to keep whether you hire us or not.
03
The work.
One crew, one sequence, one point of contact, and a work window you set. Dust containment and daily cleanup for as long as we're in the house.
What it costs
Renovation prices in Calgary, stated before you commit.
What moves a number on any of it is the same short list: whether the layout changes, whether plumbing or electrical has to move, whether cabinetry and tile are stock or custom, and what we find behind the wall on a house of that age.
What drives each price is set out on the costs page. The fixed price is in your scope document, in writing, before any work starts.
We do more than what's listed here. These are the projects we build pages for because they're what people search for. If what you need isn't on this list, ask at the walkthrough — the answer is usually yes.
We put it in writing.
- A fixed price
- agreed before we start, and it doesn't move unless you change the scope.
- A completion date
- in the contract, not a range, not a best guess.
- A workmanship warranty
- if it fails because of how we installed it, we fix it. No argument, no invoice.
Most renovation guarantees are a paragraph of conditions. Ours is three commitments you can hold us to.
